Session 1: The Director’s Financial Role & Governance

  • Understand the financial responsibilities of directors, the governance framework under the Companies Act, and how boards work effectively with finance leaders to shape financial strategy.

Session 2: Understanding Financial Statements & Business Performance

  • Learn the fundamentals of financial terminology, accounting concepts and key financial statements to confidently interpret how your organisation makes money and manages resources.

Session 3: Evaluating Financial Health, Risk & Board Reports

  • Develop the ability to assess financial performance using ratios, analyse board reports and case studies, and identify potential risks or warning signs in organisational finances.

Session 4: Financial Decision-Making, Funding & Stakeholder Communication

  • Explore how to work strategically with finance teams, plan and forecast performance, evaluate funding options and present compelling financial cases to investors and stakeholders.
Qualifications

Qualification: Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Directors

Finance for Non-Finance Directors is part of the Directors Development Programme Accelerator, a five-module programme covering leadership, strategy, business growth, governance and finance.

On completion of the 5 modules, participants can progress to the Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Directors, a Level 7 qualification validated by the University of Chester.

Designed for busy professionals, the flexible programme has rolling start dates and can typically be completed in around seven months.

The qualification focuses on practical, work-based learning, supported by one-to-one academic supervision, and provides 60 postgraduate credits that can contribute towards the University of Chester MBA.
